2020-2021 Forgiveness Series

In many ways this time of isolation from community has been not unlike “always winter, but never Christmas” from Narnia by C.S. Lewis. A time frozen. To come out of this frozen time is gong to require a thaw and then new springs of water or ways of continually forgiving others. Forgiveness is a process.

ICE

ICE

Acknowledge.

It all begins with the acknowledgement of my sin. When I realize that my thoughts or behavior put myself first ahead of God, I delude myself into thinking that I am without sin.

THAW

THAW

Repent.

The meaning of the word repent, is to change direction. Thaw is the beginning of the melting process that changes one form of water, ice, into another. Changing direction begins by the action of asking for forgiveness from God who gives it freely to us, if we ask. The act of asking itself begins the process of the thaw and change of a frozen heart.

NEW SPRINGS

NEW SPRINGS

Forgiving Others.

When we ask for forgiveness, melting waters begin to flow from a melting heart. As new springs flow within us, we are able to be a refreshment of living water to others. As they experience these new springs from us, they are inspired to be that refreshment for others as well as for themselves.

This is a painting I did for our front hall using the first letter of our family’s surname. I let the Holy Spirit guide me in the layers and colors that I added, not trying to contrive a meaning. As we know, colors have meanings in Heaven, although we don’t know what they are, we can only guess. Only after painting this and feeling that it was finished, I began to see some meaning in our lives as a family. These are personal journeys that become apparent as we look at it. Different members of the family see different things, but isn’t that just like the Holy Spirit to make a living painting that speaks differently to different people of the same family.
